In Memoriam – Professor Pekka Collin

Pekka Collin built a long and distinguished career at Tampere University Hospital, Tampere, Finland where he served as a gastroenterologist and chief physician until his retirement in 2016. Professor Collin was a widely respected researcher in the field of celiac disease and recognized as one of its leading voices. He played a pivotal role in expanding the understanding of the disease’s diverse manifestations, including its extraintestinal symptoms. His enduring contributions significantly advanced the diagnosis and treatment of celiac disease internationally.

Sadly Professor Collin passed away in late 2025, at the age of 74 due to an enduring illness.

He will be remembered as a dedicated physician, a rigorous and uncompromising researcher, and an inspiring mentor. His legacy lives on through the students he guided, the publications he authored, and the patients whose lives he profoundly touched.

Professor Collin is deeply missed by the global celiac disease research community. The ISSCD remembers and thanks Professor Collin for his contributions to the field and offers its sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
